our program
Our enriching program offers children the opportunity to become more independent and develop self-confidence; expand their knowledge through play; develop relationships with other children and express their thoughts, feelings and ideas in a fun and safe environment.

Activities
Your child’s growth and development is supported by considering their social, physical, intellectual, creative, and emotional needs when planning activities that reflect their interests and abilities. Routines, activities & materials include as many play centers as possible such as art/crafts, gross motor play, fine motor skills, music appreciation and experimentation, language development, social skills, sand, water, dramatic play, outdoor activities, math and science.
Fieldtrips
In addition to classroom exploration, fieldtrips provide children with the opportunity to develop a sense of community and make real life connections to their interests. Field trips vary each year as they are planned to reflect the interests of the children participating, but may include: a trip to the grocery store, TELUS World of Science, Edmonton Public Library, a hair salon or a veterinary clinic.
Field trip costs are included in the monthly tuition fees.
Parent Participation
Families are an integral part of the program at Southside Mothers’ Day Out. We encourage families to express their needs and preferences and participate in the classroom to create an enriched experience for all children. Families are invited to share their interests, hobbies, artistic abilities, ethnic heritage, professional skills, musical talents, etc. Our door is always open, and we love to have you!
In addition to any classroom participation a families chooses to engage in, as a member of SSMDO, parents are required to:
- attend three general meetings per year
- complete one cleaning bee per child per year
- complete one casino shift per family during a casino year
Facility
We are located in two big classrooms within Donnan School. We have two bright sunny rooms with one for toddlers and another for preschoolers, plus a separate office, all in a wing separate from the main school. *Our third classroom will open in September 2012.
